KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Award-winning singer Beyonce Knowles will perform in conservative Malaysia this month, two years after she cancelled her debut concert amid fears of protests by Muslim groups.

The star is scheduled to perform on October 25 at the country's Bukit Jalil national stadium, just outside the capital, organiser Marctensia said on their website.

It said the concert was part of Beyonce's "I am..." world tour, which has seen her perform in North America and Europe, the website said.

The promoters could not be reached for comment.

Organisers of Beyonce's 2007 concert, said the show had been cancelled because of a scheduling conflict but local sources said the main reason was concern over demonstrations from Islamic groups in the mainly Muslim country.

Performances by foreign bands frequently come under fire in Malaysia, particularly from the conservative Islamic party PAS.

PAS called for Danish band Michael Learns to Rock to be banned from performing earlier this month, saying it was an insult to Muslims during the fasting month of Ramadan. The group managed to perform without incident.
