The widow and a daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy give a thumbs-up for "Bobby," an ensemble drama about the 1968 Kennedy assassination directed by Emilio Estevez and set for release next month.

Kennedy, the former New York senator who ran for president in 1968, was shot to death June 5, 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after winning the California primary. The film follows the intersecting lives and stories of 22 fictional characters at the hotel the night of the assassination.

"Our family is grateful to Emilio Estevez and the extraordinary cast of 'Bobby' for remembering Robert Kennedy's life and his commitment to social justice, peace and equality," Ethel Kennedy said in a statement released Friday by the Weinstein Company, which produced the film.

Kerry Kennedy, the seventh of Robert and Ethel's 11 children, was 8 years old when her father died. She praised the film for illuminating his story for a generation of younger viewers.

"In the last 38 years, there has been no more important moment to remember his values and vision for our great country and its purpose in our troubled world," she said.

Kerry Kennedy was married to Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for attorney general in New York. The couple recently divorced.

Neither Ethel nor Kerry Kennedy were involved in the production of "Bobby," a Weinstein Company spokeswoman said.

The star-studded cast includes Anthony Hopkins, William H. Macy, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone and Lindsay Lohan.

The film opens in select cities Nov. 17 and nationwide on Nov. 23.
