Ambush of French paratroopers near Kabul kills 10
SUROBI, Afghanistan - About 100 insurgents ambushed a group of French paratroopers, killing 10 soldiers in an area outside the capital known as a militant stronghold. In a separate coordinated attack Tuesday, a team of suicide bombers tried unsuccessfully to storm a U.S. base near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

US provided air cover for French troops: Pentagon
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US military provided close air support to French forces who were caught in a fierce battle with insurgents in Afghanistan that claimed the lives of 10 French soldiers and left 21 others wounded, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

FBI admits missteps, but defends anthrax probe

Suicide bombers attack US base in Afghanstan
KABUL, Afghanistan - Officials say a team of suicide bombers have tried to storm a U.S. military base near the border with Pakistan. Six suicide bombers detonated their vests after being surrounded outside the base.
