FRANKFURT (Reuters) - The head of General Motors' (GM.UL) European business, Carl-Peter Forster, is leaving the company after the surprise decision by GM's board to block the sale of Opel, two sources close to the situation told Reuters.

CHICAGO (AFP) - Ford Motor Co. on Monday posted surprise earnings of nearly a billion dollars in the third quarter and said it was on track to become "solidly profitable" by 2011 after years of painful losses.

CIT files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection
WASHINGTON - After struggling for months to avert bankruptcy, lender CIT Group has filed for Chapter 11 protection in an attempt to restructure its debt while trying to keep badly needed loans flowing to thousands of mid-sized and small businesses.
